With microdermabrasion, a deeper, medical-grade exfoliation is performed. Often, only one treatment is necessary, but a series of treatments can offer longer-term results. Unlike with a chemical peel, with microdermabrasion, pre-procedure steps are unnecessary, and microdermabrasion is typically less invasive than a chemical peel.

This can depend on your particular skin type, so it’s important to have a consultation before beginning treatment. Generally, though, microdermabrasion is good for the skin. As a form of exfoliation, it has the many benefits that come with exfoliation, such as unclogging the skin and uncovering new, healthier skin. There are other benefits too, such as improving dry skin, oily skin, enlarged pores, acne-prone skin, fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone, and other skin issues.
 
If you’re worrying about damaging your skin, then you really shouldn’t worry! The common side effects are generally minimal and temporary, and include some skin tightness, redness, bruising, and sensitivity. That’s certainly nothing to worry about.

The common side effects we mentioned above go away within three days, and then you’re pretty much symptom-free. If, for any reason, you’re less comfortable than you should be after the procedure, the provider can recommend or prescribe a medication to help. After about seven to ten days, you should be completely healed.
 
As for results, you can definitely expect to see them, but keep in mind that results are cumulative. Lasting effects are dependent on proper skin care and additional or maintenance treatments can prolong results.
